That a Kalachakra Stupa should be built in KBL was Lama Ole’s wish from the first moment he came to the unique mountainous place of Greece.

Stupas are Buddhist monuments, which express the nature of mind in a perfect way. They symbolise in manifold ways not only the Buddha state—body, speech and mind inseparable—but also the whole way through the ten Bodhisattva levels until full enlightenment and finally the whole universe.

The stupa is a recipient, which shows the harmony and perfection of all universal principles and invites to the development of the human mind with all its possibilities.

Basically one can find 8 different types of stupas in the sutras. They refer to important events in the life of Buddha, as e.g. the Lotus Stupa (birth), the Stupa of Enlightenment (enlightenment), or the Parinirvana Stupa (death).

In addition, the tantras contain a ninth, very special kind of stupa: the Kalachakra Stupa, to be found in the non-dual Maha-Anuttarayoga tantra, thus belonging to the highest teachings, Buddha ever gave. It is also called the “Wheel of Time”, is connected to the Shambala prophecies and has great protective power. Its placement at the southern tip of Europe will help us protect our freedom.

Lopon Tsechu Rinpoche who died in 2003, has built 18 stupas in the west and was the starter of the activity of the stupa in KBL — the 19th. He once said: “In order to build a stupa, a lot of good conditions, wishes and good karma need to come together.” This means that we have to put all our diligence and strength, good motivation and wishes, working power, wisdom and fearless joy together to make it happen. Together and with the blessings of Lopon Tsechu Rinpoche, Karmapa, Lama Ole and all the other masters of our lineage, with our vision in action, we can reach the goal — for the benefit of all!!!

We plan to start the building of the Kalachakra Stupa as soon as possible. The outer conditions we need to get are: to find a lama who has the transmission to build and inaugurate the Kalachakra Stupa, to get the building permission and to improve the infrastructure at KBL.
